The SAP Super User is presented with the question during, or soon after, an SAP implementation is completed of “what reports are available and where are they?”.
The line of business (LOB) may have expectations that their specific reports will be made available at the same exact time the SAP implementation is completed. However, the design and strategy for the Reports process will often need to be delayed until the Master Data is built and quality assured. The Master Data must be organized and meet quality expectations for the reports to be able to meet those same standards. SAP Reporting Begins with Quality Master Data. The Master Data must be consolidated and harmonized. At that point, Reports will have quality Master Data as input to creating quality Reports. The true value of SAP is now to be recognized. Analysis of the data will drive business decisions with confidence in the data being used as input.
The next step is to choose the right Reporting Tool that best fits the need of the LOB. SAP provides built in reporting capabilities. However, the needs of the organization will frequently require more advanced capabilities.
During the SAP Super User Breakfast Huddle in Dallas in May 2014, Ginger Luttrell of SAPinsight opened up a lively discussion on what reporting tools and methods the attendees used (or did not use). This discussion generated real-life stories of successes and challenges that SAP Super Users experienced while extracting and delivering the information that their respective organizations required.
Below is a list of Reporting Tools used by the SAP Super Users that attended that Breakfast Huddle.
