Tip for the SAP Super User
This tip will allow you to Change the Tooltip Display Speed.
If tooltips are turned on, you will see them pop up when you roll your mouse over an icon or you tab over to an icon. These tooltips display the name of the icon
For SAP ECC 6.0
- Click on the Customize Local Layout button (right-most button on the standard toolbar or use keyboard option Alt+F12.

Click on Options… The SAP GUI Options – CMD dialog window will be displayed.

Click on the Expand button to the left of the Interaction Design folder or double-click on Interaction Design.

Click on Notifications to see the options displayed on the right.

In the Tooltip section you can change the Tooltip Delay to No Tooltip, Fast (0 seconds), Medium (0.5 seconds), Slow (2 seconds). This controls if a tooltip is displayed and the speed at which the tooltip is displayed.

The Show tooltip on focus change checkbox controls if the tooltip is displayed or not when you tab to the icon.
- If you will be changing options in other pages or folders, click on the Apply button before selecting a different folder. When you have completed all changes in the Options dialog window, Click on the OK button.
For Earlier Versions
- Click on the Customize Local Layout button (right-most button on the standard toolbar or use keyboard option Alt+F12. In SAP 4.6c, the button was named Customizing of Local Layout.
- Click on Options…. The Options dialog window will be displayed.
- Click on the Options tab.
- In the Quick Info section, select your speed options.
- If you will be changing options in other tabs, click on the Apply button before selecting a different tab. When you have completed all changes in the Options dialog window, Click on the OK button.
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Ctrl+/ moves the cursor from anywhere on the screen to the Command Field.
- Ctrl+i moves the cursor from anywhere on the screen to the first field on the screen.
- Ctrl+Shift+i moves the cursor from anywhere on the screen to the last field or element on the screen.
- Ctrl+q displays the tooltip for the element that has focus.
- Ctrl+Tab skips forward over areas such as groups, lists, or tables.
- Ctrl+Shift+Tab skips backwards over areas such as groups, lists, or tables.
